Well it’s Christmas Eve and the last few days have been learning experiences for me. Keeping the carbs under 50 grams is not as easy as it would seem on paper.
I haven’t hit that goal any day this week. Sunday was 57 grams, and Monday was 54 grams. Tuesday was 66 grams due to my going a little over with the pizza at our work Christmas lunch. Pizza is my kryptonite!
Today went well up until this evening. My wife and I are in our church choir and we did 2 services (4pm and 6pm). Our choir director had a wonderful spread in the choir room for us to snack on before and between services. There was the usual cookies and cakes, fruit and assorted crackers. But they also had beef jerky, salami slices, pepperoni sticks and little smoky sausages. All of which I had on my plate. My mistake was picking up a can of Canada Dry Cranberry Ginger Ale. Only after drinking it did I realize that it – by itself – had 37 grams of carbohydrates. So unfortunately, my total for today was a whopping 75 grams.
I will definitely be more careful in the future with what I drink. I believe that I can keep tomorrow’s total close to 50 grams. Just because it’s Christmas does not mean that I am going to go nuts. But I’m also going to enjoy the day not necessarily be a zealot purist.
I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Remember that Jesus is the reason for this season. The greatest gift given to mankind.
